Eligibility for NDIS physiotherapy is determined by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) guidelines.

  • Individuals who meet the following criteria may be eligible for NDIS Physiotherapy:
  • Have a permanent or significant disability that affects their mobility, strength or physical function.
  • Are Aged between 0 and 65 years old
  • Are an Australian citizen or permanent resident or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
  • Live in an area where the NDIS has been rolled out.

The NDIS provides funding for a wide range of physiotherapy services to support individuals with disabilities.

  • Assessment: comprehensive evaluations to determine physical abilities, limitations and goals.
  • Therapeutic interventions: custom physiotherapy treatments aim to improve, function, strength, pain, mobility and coordination.
  • Home exercise programs: design tailored exercise programs to be performed at home to maintain and improve function and physical ability.
  • Education and training: providing information and training to individuals, their family and carers on exercises and strategies for managing physical challenges.

During an NDIS physiotherapy assessment, a Physiotherapist will conduct a thorough examination of the individual’s physical abilities, limitations and goals.
The assessment aims to gather information to guide the development and design of an evidence-based personalised physiotherapy plan that is tailored to the individual’s specific needs and goals.

The assessment process may involve:

  • Reviewing medical history including diseases, chronic conditions and injury history
  • Conducting physical tests and measurements to gauge strength, mobility, balance and functional abilities.
  • Assessing mobility and specific challenges related to movement or physical function.
  • Discussing individuals goals and aspiration for improvement
  • Collaborating with the individual, their family and other sports to develop a personalised treatment plan.
